History was always interesting to me. An uncle of mine had researched the family history and I enjoyed hearing his stories that made me feel connected to history.

My husband (see Hank Valon) and I began reenacting in 1994 because of our mutual interest in history. We are charter members of the Osage Valley Vigilantes and enjoy entertaining in skits that portray historical settings. I have been the group’s vice-president and am presently the treasurer. My character is based on and named after both my grandmothers and I am usually a townslady in skits. I also tell the history of the Betsy Ross flag in our group’s flag presentation and at other times explain how our county of Cass got it’s name. I am a seamstress and have made several costumes for our members. I won the OWLHF best female costume award at the 2000 national competition, and the best male costume included a shirt that I had made.
